Whenever a significant honors show approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
- A different innovative game received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
- Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles globally continuing this trend for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
