England and Welsh Pitted in the Same Group for RWC 2027 Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was conducted by sporting legends including two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

England together with Wales have been drawn in an identical group for the World Cup in 2027, promising a major pool stage encounter in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Group F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This pairing echoes their memorable clash in the pool stages of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at England's home ground contributed to the English team's surprise group stage elimination.

Other Notable Pool Draws

The Irish alongside the Scots also share a group together, replicating the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, Ireland claimed a convincing victory, with Scotland unable to progress to the knockout stages.

Uruguay and Portugal, who each made a strong impression as surprise packages in the last World Cup, round out that Pool D.

Notably, the winners of both Pool D and Pool F cannot meet holders and top-ranked the Springboks before the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks win their own group.

Knockout Ramifications

If the groups conclude according to the current global standings, further top favourites like New Zealand and Les Bleus would remain separated from the likes of the English and the Irish until the final.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the other highly-seeded nation on that side of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Hosts Face Major Opener

Tournament hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their trans-Tasman rivals and triple champions New Zealand in Pool A.

The Wallabies will open the tournament in Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a blockbuster match designed to jump-start the competition.

Elsewhere, reigning champions the Springboks have been paired with Italy, the Lelos and the Oaks. The French team are grouped with Japan, 2031 hosts the USA and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face the Flying Fijians, Los Leones and Canada as the World Cup grows to 24 teams from the 20 who competed in France.

The 2027 tournament will feature a round of 16 stage for the first time in the competition's history.

Although the winner of England and Wales's group may avoid some of the game's biggest beasts early on, they will have to face the second-placed team from Group B – most likely Italy – in the last 16.

A total of four of the other six pool winners will play a third-placed side from the initial group phase.
