Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack rendered him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
